From Delay to Direction: Shaping Canada’s Next Ag Policy Framework

For over two decades, Federal-Provincial-Territorial (FPT) agreements have shaped how governments share responsibility for supporting Canadian agriculture—from risk management to innovation and sustainability. While this model has enabled coordination across jurisdictions, it’s also been criticized for its slow pace of change and tendency toward small tweaks. As the sector faces new pressures, there is an increasing need for a more strategic, coherent and ambitious approach to FPT policies and programs.
With the in person FPT Ministers of Agriculture meeting postponed until the fall, there is an opportunity to think more strategically about the path forward, addressing questions like: What should Ministers and governments spend the extra time working on?
As part of our new partnership, join CAPI and RealAgriculture for an Ag Policy Exchange exploring how we can use the coming months to think differently about the FPT process, and how to better position Canada’s agri-food sector for long-term resilience and success.
