CAPI honoured to have had Dr. Robert Church as a founding board member of the institute
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Robert (Bob) Church, who passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019.
Bob Church served as a founding board member of CAPI alongside founding Chair Gaëtan Lussier and founding board member Ken Knox in 2004. After Dr. Church left serving as a board member, he was made one of CAPI’s Honorary Members.
“Bob responded with enthusiasm to join the beginnings of CAPI, all along with his vast expertise, he challenged us to think outside the box,” said Mr. Lussier, “his vast knowledge of agriculture and medicine perspective inspired us to think about the production of food from a different angle.” “We will always remember Bob Church as a man with very impressive knowledge and a very close friend.”
“He was a leader of leaders, and a visionary of visionaries.” said Kim McConnell, a current board member at CAPI. “His contribution was large and his impact significant.”
Dr. Church was a recipient of many awards and honours. He was inducted in the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame in 1991 for his work in the area of cattle genetics. In 1992, he received the Outstanding Contribution to Alberta Science and Technology Community Award from the ASTech Foundation. He was also inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence in 1993.
