About the Institute

The Canadian Agri-Food Policy Institute (CAPI) is an independent, non-partisan policy forum. Established as a not-for-profit corporation in 2004 by the federal government, CAPI addresses policy issues of significance to the agri-food sector. Since government policy-makers and industry necessarily focus on short-term challenges, CAPI focuses on the mid- to long-term issues facing the agriculture and agri-food sector.

CAPI has identified three major themes in which to focus its work: food and wellness, sustainability, and viability. The Institute identifies emerging issues and trends that influence agriculture. It brings together industry leaders to provide their views, and fosters debate on topics of interest to all parties throughout the value chain.

CAPI is proactively addressing the challenges of the next five to ten-year period in order to advance the success of Canada's agriculture and agri-food sector. The Institute aims to provide primary producers, processors, and food manufacturers with new opportunities, and to provide benefits to consumers in rural and urban settings. CAPI is working toward a competitive, sustainable, and healthy agri-food sector.

CAPI is guided by a diverse Board of Directors and an Advisory Committee.
